Insufficient Information for Deaf Individuals from Media Outlets

Access to information for deaf individuals, especially during times of crisis such as the current situation in the Middle East, is deemed insufficient. The Cyprus Confederation of Organizations of People with Disabilities (KYSOA) and the Association of Cypriot Sign Language Interpreters highlighted the problem to the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights. The lack of interpretation in television broadcasts and inadequate information via mobile phone messages (which can cause panic) are key issues. Additionally, the absence of a certification body for Cypriot Sign Language interpreters and the need for access to information during election periods were emphasized.
