Establishment of University of Athens Branch in Cyprus to be Celebrated with Presidential Attendance

An event to mark the establishment and operation of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens – Cyprus Branch will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the Great Hall of the University of Athens. The event will be attended by the President of the Hellenic Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Ieronymos II, and the Archbishop of New Justiniana and All Cyprus, Georgios. The event will include greetings from the aforementioned, as well as a speech by the Rector of the University of Athens, Gerasimos Siasos, on the topic of “Cyprus and the University of Athens – Ties of Two Centuries. The Establishment of the Branch.” A video titled “The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens – From its Founding in 1837 to 2025 and the Establishment of the Branch in Cyprus” will also be screened. The event marks the official launch of the Cyprus Branch of the University of Athens, which is expected to strengthen academic cooperation between Greece and Cyprus. The establishment of the branch is a continuation of a long-standing tradition of cooperation between the two countries in the field of education. A reception will follow at the “Kostis Palamas” Cultural Center of the University of Athens after the event. The event is expected to attract a significant number of academics, politicians and civil society representatives from Greece and Cyprus.
