Tension at Nikaia Hospital During Adonis Georgiadis' Visit

Tension erupted at Nikaia General State Hospital during the visit of Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis for the inauguration of the renovated Emergency Department. Employees protested and attempted to prevent the minister's entry, leading to clashes with riot police. Mr. Georgiadis reported being subjected to objects and threats, while OENGE denounced an unprovoked police attack on workers and the arrest of a doctor. The Health Minister accused "known communists" of organizing the incidents, emphasizing that violence cannot prevail over democracy. He stressed that he went to the hospital as an elected MP and Minister of Health and that the institutions of democracy should not give way to violent reactions. OENGE, for its part, denounces the repression of workers by the police and the government, emphasizing that health workers are keeping the public health system afloat under difficult conditions. They report that police arrested a doctor, a member of the OENGE General Council, and held him in handcuffs at the Emergency Department. Hospital workers report that strong police forces stormed the hospital and indiscriminately attacked health workers and other employees. They also point out the problems in the new department, such as leaks and staff shortages, which lead to exhausting working hours.
