Giorgos Tsagarakis Released on Bail, Denies Charges

Gallery owner Giorgos Tsagarakis was released on bail after his testimony to the investigating judge. He was subject to the terms of appearing at the police station, a ban on leaving the country, a bail of 50,000 euros, and a ban on selling antiquities. His employee was released without restrictions. Tsagarakis is accused of misappropriation of ancient and modern monuments, violation of the obligation to declare a monument, fraud and forgery of works of art. According to information, only 7 of the 321 works found in his possession were genuine. He denies the charges, claiming he did not know the objects were fake and that he would have tried to contact the Archaeological Service to show the 1745 Gospel before the police investigation. His lawyer presented evidence in support of his innocence.
