Cyprus Audit Office Report Reveals Serious Flaws in State Forest Land Management

The Cyprus Audit Office has released a report detailing the management of state forest land between 2018 and 2024, uncovering significant deficiencies and omissions. The report highlights inconsistencies in land leases, delays in revenue collection, lack of documentation, and violations of regulatory procedures, particularly in Natura 2000 areas. Instances of non-compliance with contractual terms by sailing clubs and hotels, as well as long-term leases with outdated rents leading to lost revenue for the state, were also identified. Furthermore, the report points to pending issues in reconciling data with the Land Registry Department and cases of illegal occupation of forest land. The Auditor General emphasizes the need to strengthen leasing processes, environmental compliance, supervision, and financial management.
