Eleni Anastasiou: Theatre Opens Cracks in Information Overload

Cypriot director Eleni Anastasiou discusses the production of "Keffiyeh/ Made in China" by Palestinian Dalia Taha, which is being staged for the first time in Greek. Anastasiou explains that Taha's story, which focuses on the experience of children, deeply moved her and prompted her to direct the play. Her directorial approach focuses on highlighting human presence and small details, avoiding melodrama and allowing the audience to experience the stories as they are, with the pain, humor, and tenderness that characterize them. The play does not attempt to provide answers or condemn, but to present the lives of people living in conflict situations. Anastasiou has already been in contact with the playwright and hopes to host her in Cyprus for further activities. She believes that theatre can offer a space to confront information overload and connect with the human experience, rather than becoming mere consumers of horror.
