The investigation into the deadly explosion at the 'Violanta' factory in Trikala has concluded that it was caused by an extensive, months-long propane leak into the ground. The presence of two underground propane tanks was confirmed, with a leak from the pipelines supplying the ovens. The leak was so significant that it accumulated in an underground space and, in the presence of a spark from electromechanical equipment, led to the explosion. At the time of the explosion, 13 people were working at the factory – 4 men and 9 women – resulting in the death of five women.
