Apartment Building Evacuated in Engomi After Fire

A fire broke out in an apartment in Engomi, Nicosia, yesterday, Sunday, causing an alarm for the Fire Service. The fire, which started from an oil heater on the balcony, affected an air conditioning compressor and caused damage to the paint of the wall. The Fire Department responded with three vehicles and a hydraulic platform, extinguishing the fire in about 30 minutes. The residents of the building had preventively evacuated the area before the arrival of the Fire Department. The fire was caused by lighting the oil heater. The Fire Service responded to 194 calls for assistance in the past week, of which 89 were fires, 90 special services, and 15 false calls. In the last 24 hours, the Fire Service responded to 32 calls, of which 14 were fires, 16 special services, and 2 false calls. The incident in Engomi is one of many incidents that the Fire Service deals with on a daily basis.
