Cyprus Unemployment Rate Continues Downward Trend

The unemployment rate in Cyprus continued its downward trend, reaching 4.0% in the fourth quarter of 2025, compared to 4.5% in the same quarter of 2024. This improvement was accompanied by an increase in the labour force (to 531,062 people) and the number of employed (to 509,773 people). The labour force participation rate reached 65.2% of the population, with higher participation among men (70.3%) compared to women (60.4%). An increase in employment was observed in all sectors, with Services remaining the largest employer (81.3%), followed by Industry (16.5%) and Agriculture (2.2%). Part-time employment accounted for 8.6% of total employment, with a higher percentage among women (10.4%) compared to men (6.9%). A significant increase was recorded in the employment of people aged 55-64, which rose to 71.7% from 69.9% the previous year. The employment rate in the 20-64 age group reached 81.7% (86.2% for men and 77.4% for women). However, an increase in unemployment was recorded among young people aged 15-24, which rose to 14.7% from 9.6% the previous year. The majority of the unemployed (66.6%) had been looking for work for less than six months, while the long-term unemployed were limited to 18.3%.
