Twenty-Four Potential Risks Identified for Cyprus's Health System

The GESY (Cyprus's General Health System) risk assessment report identifies 24 potential risks, mainly stemming from external factors. These include paying compensation to non-entitled individuals, abuse by providers and beneficiaries, the acquisition of hospitals by investment funds, and the potential collapse of the OKYPY (State Health Services Organization). The OAY (Health Insurance Organization) has taken measures to reduce risks, decreasing the number of high-level risks from 17 to 5. The GESY fund demonstrates strong viability and a large reserve, capable of covering 4.5 months of needs without contributions. The report highlights the important role of schools and educators in the success of GESY. One of the most significant risks is the payment of compensation to individuals not entitled to GESY, due to the difficulty of removing them from personal doctor lists. The viability of OKYPY is also considered critical for the operation of GESY.
