EU: A Comprehensive, Fair and Lasting Solution for Cyprus is an Absolute Priority

The European Union reaffirmed that a comprehensive, fair and lasting solution for Cyprus remains an absolute priority. The Commission, through its spokesperson, stressed the EU's commitment to the reunification of Cyprus based on a bi-zonal and bi-communal federation, in accordance with the decisions of the UN Security Council. The EU is ready to play an active role in the resolution process, using all available means and tools. The statement was made in response to a question about the Cyprus talks, following the speech by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during the launch of the Cypriot presidency in the EU Council. Regarding the position of the EU's special envoy for Cyprus, following the resignation of Johannes Hahn, the Commission stated that President von der Leyen will decide on the next steps in the near future.
