EU Commission Approves State Aid for New Limassol Football Stadium

The European Commission has approved state aid for the construction of the new football stadium in Limassol, as well as its subsequent use by the teams Apollon, AEL, and Aris. The approval was based on EU rules for state aid. The stadium was completed at the end of 2022 and offers a modern sports facility capable of hosting events of public interest, such as educational and cultural activities. The approval of funding strengthens the region's sports infrastructure and supports the development of sports and culture. In addition, the Commission approved the 20-year lease agreement between the KOA and the three teams, which gives them the right to use the stadium for their home matches, in exchange for an annual rent. The approval was based on the assessment that the measures are appropriate, necessary, and proportionate, and that the impact on competition is limited.
