Nicosia has strengthened its water supply with the inauguration of two new reservoirs, each with a capacity of 8,600 cubic meters. The project, completed in 11 months at a cost of €2,013,550, is a strategic infrastructure to enhance the security, sustainability, and modernization of the province's water system. The Nicosia Water Board (EOA) is proceeding with the construction of another reservoir in the Municipality of Latsia – Geri and is also prioritizing the upgrading of pipelines and pumping stations. The goal is water security for the country, through increasing the available amount of water from non-conventional sources, improving storage and transport infrastructure, and reducing demand. The government plans to invest €200 million by 2030 in network maintenance and modernization projects, while also addressing the problem of water losses, which in some areas reach 40%.
