Western Paphos Bypass: Construction to Begin in 2027

The construction of the Western Paphos Bypass has been included in the State Budget and is expected to begin in 2027. The project, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion in western Paphos, is in the process of preparing construction plans by the Public Works Department, following the submission of the planning plan by the Department of Urban Planning and Housing. The Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeades, responded to a complaint from the Paphos MP of AKEL, Valentinos Fakontis, regarding the delays in the project. MP Fakontis had highlighted the problem of access for communities in western Paphos to the city due to increased traffic in the Diplarkatsia area. The completion of the bypass road is expected to significantly improve the situation. The remaining section of the road concerns the connection of Phase A (completed in 2012) with Tombs of the Kings Avenue. Mr. Fakontis stressed that the project is significantly delayed compared to the initial schedule and called on the government to speed up the procedures. The process of updating the planning plan has not yet been completed, which contributes to the delays. The Minister of Transport assured that the Public Works Department will proceed with the preparation of the plans and the announcement of the project as soon as the Department of Urban Planning and Housing finalizes the planning plan and the priorities of the Public Works Department are determined.
