Erchurman Clarifies Talks with Christodoulides - Foot-and-Mouth Disease, Checkpoints, Mixed Marriages Discussed

T/C leader Tufan Erchurman described his meeting with President Christodoulides as “open and honest”, stating that they agreed to continue contacts through their representatives to make up for lost time in the MEPs and to schedule a new meeting of the two leaders. A specific example of cooperation discussed was the management of foot-and-mouth disease, with the T/C side offering 20,000 doses of vaccines sent through the Republic of Cyprus by the EU, recognizing the risk of spreading across the island. Emphasis was placed on checkpoints, with Mr. Erchurman proposing the immediate opening of the Mia Milia checkpoint for vehicle passage, while for the Paphos Gate he preferred opening it for pedestrians, due to its proximity to Ledra Street. Humanitarian issues were also mentioned, such as a visit to the school of displaced Greek Cypriots in Rizokarpaso, confirming that the visit will be carried out based on human rights. Finally, the issue of mixed marriages was discussed, with Mr. Erchurman handing over relevant data to President Christodoulides.
