IEA: Critical Turning Point for Global Energy Markets

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has warned that global energy markets are at a critical turning point, with the oil market continuing to face pressure from the effects of the war in Iran. Despite the IEA's recommendation for a coordinated release of strategic oil reserves, the price of oil has exceeded $100 a barrel, putting pressure on US debt markets and fueling fears of rising inflation. The increase in oil prices continues despite the release of 400 million barrels from the strategic reserves of IEA member countries, an unprecedented intervention to address the severe oil shock. Global crude production has decreased, while the supply of oil products has increased, with disruptions mainly affecting countries in the Middle East. The IEA estimates that global oil supply will decrease further in 2026.
