Ministry of Justice Denies Reports of 'Task Force' Under its Control

The Ministry of Justice has denied reports regarding the creation of a 'task force' to combat organized crime, which would be under the control of the Minister of Justice. According to the Ministry, any coordination or operational team does not fall under the administrative or operational authority of the Minister. The Minister of Justice's role is institutional, political, and supervisory, focusing on policy-making, overseeing the Police, and coordinating relevant services. Operational command of the Cyprus Police remains the sole responsibility of the Chief of Police. The state reaffirms its determination to tackle organized crime, while respecting the separation of powers.
