Manageable Situation in Hospitals, No Additional Measures Needed for Seasonal Infections

The Minister of Health, Neofytos Charalambides, stated that the situation in hospitals is manageable despite the increased hospitalizations due to seasonal infections, and no additional measures are currently required. This was stated after a visit to the General Hospital of Nicosia, emphasizing that securing beds from private hospitals is also not considered necessary. The attendance at Accident and Emergency Departments is at the same levels as last year and is a perennial challenge during the winter period. Institutional meetings were held with stakeholders before the holidays to examine infection levels. At the same time, a downward trend is being recorded in cases of influenza, RSV, and COVID. The Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Elisavet Konstantinou, stated that additional decisions will be taken if necessary, however, she estimated that the second wave in March will be milder and the B strain of influenza will prevail. Also, the significant public response to vaccination was emphasized, with free vaccination for infants through the GHS and a vaccine available for adults. The situation with RSV is being closely monitored and relevant instructions are being issued.
