Patient and Nurse Involved in Altercation at Limassol A&E Department

An altercation between a patient and a nurse occurred on Sunday morning at the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department of Limassol General Hospital. According to the police, the patient, while waiting for treatment, began to complain and argue with the nurse. The incident ended with the intervention of other people present, without further involvement of the authorities, as neither party wishes to file a complaint. The General Nursing Staff Branch of PASYDY condemns the incident, expressing support for the nurse and all staff at the A&E department. PASYDY emphasizes that acts of violence against healthcare professionals are unacceptable and calls on the OKYPY and the police to immediately investigate the incident and determine whether the agreed security measures were implemented. PASYNO, for its part, states that the incident is not surprising, as it is one of many faced by nurses in public hospitals. The union states that it has repeatedly discussed security issues in A&E departments and the effectiveness of policing, while hoping that the perpetrator will face the prescribed penalties. The Pan-Cypriot Union of Government Doctors (PASYKI) also condemns the incident, emphasizing that the recurrence of such incidents is not a coincidence, but a result of the failure of the system to protect healthcare professionals in A&E departments. PASYKI calls for immediate action to prevent similar incidents in the future and protect staff.
