Kurds Protest in Limassol, Calling for EU Intervention in Rojava

Kurds protested in Limassol against the attacks and massacres they claim are being committed against the people of Rojava in Syria. The protesters called on the Cypriot Presidency of the EU to take initiatives to end the hostilities and mobilize international public opinion. The announcement read during the protest stated that Rojava is a target of destruction by jihadist groups supported by Turkey, and that attacks against civilians constitute war crimes. The protesters emphasized that the Kurdish people will continue to defend freedom and democracy. The protesters appealed to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, who holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU, to take political responsibility to stop the massacres and recognize the resistance of the Kurdish people. They also called on democratic forces and people of conscience to support Rojava. In a related announcement, the Kurdistan Cultural Center “Theophilos” reported that two female fighters from the Women's Defence Units (YPJ) were abducted in the Deir ez-Zor region by armed groups linked to the Syrian government. Women's rights organizations condemned the abduction and demanded their release.
