Taxi Drivers Protest Piracy Outside Presidential Palace, Transport Ministry, Parliament

Taxi drivers from across Cyprus staged a mobilization in Nicosia, protesting the issue of piracy in their industry. They began their protest at the Ministry of Transport, where they expressed their disappointment over the absence of Minister Alexis Vafeades, who had already left. The drivers accused the Ministry of lacking seriousness and being unable to find solutions to the problem of piracy. They then submitted a memorandum to the House of Representatives, where they met with the chairman of the Parliamentary Transport Committee, Alekos Tryfonidis. Mr. Tryfonidis stated that the issue of piracy is being examined by the committee and that there is a plan for a comprehensive reform of the taxi industry, however, he expressed reservations about the speed of resolving the problem. The taxi drivers pledged to continue their struggle until they achieve justice.
