Dietitians Face Bureaucratic Nightmare Returning to Cyprus: Complaints Filed with EU Commission

Published February 14, 2026, 09:33

Cypriot dietitians and nutritionists, who have studied and worked abroad, are facing bureaucratic obstacles when attempting to practice their profession in Cyprus. The Council for Registration of Food Scientists and Dietitians applies strict requirements regarding the number of practical training hours and the exact title nomenclature, leading to the rejection of applications even for scientists with significant experience. The issue has reached the European Commission with complaints of violation of the principle of proportionality. Scientists are forced to resort to private institutions outside the EU to certify their knowledge or continue their studies in Cyprus, while the Ministry of Health has not responded to the complaints.
