Iran Protests: NGO Reports Over 5,000 Deaths, Fears of Tens of Thousands of Victims

The non-governmental organization Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) announced that it has confirmed the deaths of 5,002 people during the protest movement that shook Iran, the vast majority being protesters. The organization is investigating another 9,787 potential deaths. It also reports that 26,852 people have been arrested. Another NGO, Iran Human Rights (IHR), expresses fears that the actual number of deaths could reach 25,000. Iranian authorities released a first death toll of 3,117, with the majority being members of the security forces or bystanders.
