DIPA Calls for Action Plan to Address Issues at Emergency Departments

A report by the Audit Office has highlighted serious issues in the operation of the Accident and Emergency Departments (A&E) of Nicosia and Limassol hospitals, including long patient waiting times, staff shortages, and inadequate planning. DIPA is calling on the Cyprus Public Health Services Organisation (OKYPY) to immediately present a specific action plan with clear timelines for improvements, emphasizing that the smooth functioning of A&E departments is vital for the public health system. The report specifically mentions 40 inactive beds at Limassol General Hospital due to a lack of nurses, a situation requiring immediate institutional intervention. DIPA points out that the problems have been known for a long time and patient complaints are increasing without effective measures being taken. Transparency, accountability, and immediate action are essential to protect human life and provide quality healthcare.
