DISY Paphos Responds to DIKO on Project Funding

The DISY municipal team in Paphos Municipality responded to a statement from the DIKO municipal team regarding project funding. DISY argues that the change in the use of a €11,797,528 loan between the Municipality of Paphos and the Republic of Cyprus does not increase borrowing or create new debt, but is a standard procedure to avoid illegal double funding. This change allows for the securing of additional European funding of approximately €3,400,000 for other development projects. DISY also disagrees with the claim that the Municipal Council was not informed in time about the change, pointing out that the information was provided in detail in the minutes of the meeting on December 9, 2024, which were unanimously approved. The DISY team emphasizes that discussions on such issues should be based on accuracy and responsibility, and condemns the attempt to create impressions through inaccurate information. Specifically, the change in the use of the loan is necessary to ensure the legality of the procedures and protect the interests of the Municipality and its citizens. The additional European funding secured will contribute to the completion of important development projects in Paphos. The announcement concludes by expressing the view that DIKO's criticism is not well-intentioned and does not contribute to the promotion of the city's development. DISY calls for a public dialogue based on real data and institutional responsibility.
