Journalism: Studies and Labor Market

According to Eurostat data, Cyprus is close to the European Union average regarding the matching of studies and employment for young people aged 15-34 with medium or high levels of education, with a rate of 56.8% compared to 56.4% at the EU level. However, there are significant differences by field of study. The highest match is recorded in the field of health and social welfare (80.6%), while the lowest is in the fields of arts and humanities (52.2%). Low matching is also recorded in social sciences, journalism and information (59.1%) and in services (59.3%). The low match between studies and employment in journalism is a cause for concern. Questions about low wages, working conditions and the large supply of journalists need to be studied. This situation raises questions about the future of the profession and the need to adapt studies to the demands of the labor market.
