No New Cases of Foot-and-Mouth Disease: 38 Cases Remain

The number of foot-and-mouth disease cases in Cyprus remains at 38, all within the infected zone of the Larnaca Province. This was announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, emphasizing that the results of tests on samples from other provinces, including Larnaca outside the infected area, are negative. The Veterinary Services continue tracing, sampling and vaccinations on a Pan-Cypriot basis. According to the spokesperson of the Veterinary Services, Sotiria Georgiou, no new cases have been detected and the culling of animals continues in specific holdings in Dromolaxia, due to severe clinical symptoms. The Ministry informed the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture about the situation, the legal framework and the obligations of Cyprus as a member state of the EU. 88,650 doses of vaccine have been granted for cattle and 238,400 doses for sheep and goats. The Ministry reminds the need for strict adherence to restrictive measures, such as the movement of animals and feed, the movement of people without permission and the grazing of animals. Zoos and theme parks remain closed.
