No New Foot-and-Mouth Disease Cases Today – 260 Cows Culled, Goat and Sheep Culling Tomorrow

In Cyprus, no new cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been detected in the province of Larnaca, which is considered positive. The cows that tested positive for the virus have already been culled, and the culling of goats and sheep will begin tomorrow. Authorities have set up 14 disinfection and passage control points within the 10-kilometer surveillance zone and plan to add five more. A decree prohibiting hunting and animal transport in the affected areas has been issued. Vaccines are expected to arrive within the week, while the Minister of Agriculture has promoted support measures for farmers. Authorities assure that measures have been taken to protect water resources during the burial of animals.
