“No Jurisdiction”: Controversy Over “Cat Kidnapping” Case and Home Inspection

Published February 18, 2026, 17:21

The President of the Animal Party, Kyriakos Kyriakou, expressed concerns regarding the investigation of the case involving a woman accused of 'cat kidnapping' in Athienou. He argued that proper procedures were not followed during the inspection of her home, as the President of the Cat Protection and Welfare Association entered her private residence without a court order and without informing the relevant provincial committee. Mr. Kyriakou emphasized that entering private property requires a court decision and that the inspection should have been conducted by the Larnaca Provincial Committee, as Athienou falls under its jurisdiction. He also alleges that the volunteers who reported the case to the police were not allowed to monitor the inspection and collect evidence, such as photographs. The party has requested that the competent authorities investigate the case and determine whether Mr. Agiomamitis had the authority to enter another province. Mr. Kyriakou mentioned that there have been reports of missing cats throughout Cyprus and that there is a need for checks at ports and airports to prevent the illegal export of animals. He stated that his party is committed to protecting the rights of animals and volunteers. Finally, Mr. Kyriakou expressed his willingness to provide any information to the authorities for further investigation of the case and announced that he will submit a memorandum to the Presidential Palace on Friday, aiming for full transparency and justice.
