Cyprus Minister Attends Nuclear Energy Summit in Paris

The Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry of Cyprus, Michalis Damianou, represented Cyprus at the 2nd Nuclear Energy Summit in Paris. In his address, Mr. Damianou emphasized the agreement among all EU member states on the need for cooperation towards a secure, affordable and competitive energy system, compatible with climate goals. He also highlighted the commitment of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU to achieve tangible results on the energy agenda, while stressing the importance of respecting the specificities of each member state in determining its energy mix. Mr. Damianou advocated for a combination of renewable energy sources and nuclear energy, emphasizing safety, transparency, and investments in infrastructure and education. He also held meetings with representatives of TotalEnergies and Beicip-Franlab, and attended a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.
