Cyprus Presidency Prioritizes WTO Preparations and EU-China Trade Relations

The Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry of Cyprus, Michalis Damianou, announced that the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union will prioritize preparations for the upcoming World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference and the readjustment of EU-China trade relations. Opening the Informal Meeting of Trade Ministers in Nicosia, Mr. Damianou emphasized the need to strengthen the EU's competitiveness, resilience, and strategic autonomy, given the current geopolitical challenges. Cyprus is committed to promoting a future-oriented agenda, while the EU's approach to relations with China is based on the principle of risk reduction, not decoupling, with an emphasis on fair competition and the protection of security.
