Greek Court: Prosecutor Rejects Clemency Requests in Golden Dawn Trial

The prosecutor at the five-member Criminal Appeals Court proposed the rejection of all clemency requests made by the defendants in the Golden Dawn trial. The prosecutor argued that the mitigating circumstance of a law-abiding life is not applicable to all, even those with clean criminal records, as the criminal organization's nature and racist motives indicate a propensity for antisocial behavior. Furthermore, she recommended rejecting the mitigating circumstance of subsequent good conduct, believing that compliance in prison and participation in charitable activities do not constitute sufficient evidence of psychological transformation, given that the defendants pursued a defense aimed at obscuring the case. The prosecutor emphasized that the criminal gravity of Golden Dawn's actions outweighs that of other criminal organizations.
