Monks of Avvakoum Monastery Case: Adjournment and Modification of Restrictions

The trial concerning the two monks of the Avvakoum Monastery and the 24 charges against them has been adjourned again. The prosecuting authority requested time to examine the possibility of an agreement on admitted facts, as the testimonial material is extensive. The defense reserved its position regarding the acceptance of the proposed facts. The new hearing date has been set for May 27, 2026. Simultaneously, a request by the defense to modify the restrictive conditions was approved, with the monks now required to sign once a week at the Agios Domettios Police Station. The charges relate to financial offenses, forgery, theft, and other violations, while the monks deny any involvement.
