Limassol Municipality and Citizens Co-Design the City

The Limassol Municipality has launched an innovative initiative, “Co-Designing a Model Building and Public Space for All,” with the aim of actively involving citizens in the city planning process. This initiative leverages the results of workshops based on the New European Bauhaus, focusing on affordable housing based on the needs of residents and not just building regulations. Through a series of workshops and public consultations, with the participation of scientists, organizations and representatives of civil society, realistic solutions were identified for the creation of sustainable and accessible public spaces. This process marks a renewal of the municipality's social policy, prioritizing the needs and concerns of residents. The results of the workshops will be used to prepare the terms and specifications of the architectural competition for Affordable Housing, confirming the vision of Mayor Yiannis Armeftis for a social policy that bears the stamp of the citizens. More than 30 citizens and professionals participated in the co-design process. This initiative serves as an example for other cities, demonstrating that co-design, with the participation of all stakeholders, can lead to the creation of a city that is planned for its people, together with its people.
