Kourion Municipality: Citizen Energy Community in the Making - Open Call for Participation

The Kourion Municipality has announced the commencement of the process to establish a Citizen Energy Community (CEC), aiming for local energy production and management from renewable sources. The CEC will be a collective entity open to citizens, businesses, organizations, and the Municipality itself, operating on a non-profit basis, and will strive to reduce energy poverty and costs. The initiative focuses on developing renewable energy infrastructure, primarily through the installation of photovoltaic systems on rooftops. The generated energy will be offset against the needs of community members, reducing electricity bills, enhancing energy security, and protecting the Municipality from price fluctuations. The creation of the CEC is part of the Municipality of Kourion's broader strategic plan for green transition and energy autonomy, including promoting electromobility and reducing the carbon footprint. The goal is to strengthen cooperation between citizens and local stakeholders. The Municipality actively calls on citizens, businesses, and organizations to participate in the creation of the CEC and the installation of energy infrastructure through its website (www.kourion.org) by February 28, 2026. The philosophy of the project is to ensure that the benefits of the energy transition remain within the local community.
