Outbreak of Bluetongue Disease Affects Numerous Livestock Farms in Aradippou

The Mayor of Aradippou, Christodoulos Partou, reported that over 25 to 30 livestock farms in the area are affected by the bluetongue virus, with the number potentially higher when including scattered farms outside the main livestock zones. Despite the difficulties, the Municipality continues to collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture and has implemented measures such as restricting entries and exits to livestock areas and spraying vehicles. Mr. Partou expressed concerns about the economic and psychological impact of the problem on farmers, as well as the potential for the problem to spread to the entire Cypriot economy. The situation is considered challenging, but the Municipality remains determined to find a solution, despite initial difficulties in controlling the spread of the virus. Furthermore, the Municipality is cooperating to organize the supply of feed and minimize the risk of virus transmission through transportation.
