Woman Loses All Limbs After Dog Licked Wound

A 56-year-old woman, Manjit Sangha, lost all four of her limbs after a rare and serious infection developed from her dog licking a small wound. The infection progressed to sepsis, which led to six cardiac arrests and ultimately the need for a quadruple amputation. Doctors report that similar cases have been documented in medical literature, although they are extremely rare. Manjit describes the experience as “difficult” and warns about the seriousness of sepsis, emphasizing that it should not be underestimated. Her husband, Kam Sangha, describes the rapid deterioration of her condition as “panic” and states that her heart stopped six times during her hospital stay. Sepsis, a severe immune response to an infection, causes attacks on the body's own tissues and organs. In the United Kingdom, approximately 50,000 people die each year from sepsis. Manjit also underwent spleen removal, as well as pneumonia and gallstones. The couple has launched a fundraising campaign for advanced prosthetic limbs and to raise awareness about the dangers of sepsis. They have already raised over £27,000 through GoFundMe and other initiatives. Manjit, a former pharmacist, says she is determined to walk again and return to work.
