Greenland: 'The country will not be an object of bargaining - Attempt to cede it is unacceptable'

The Greenlandic government condemns any attempt to cede territory of the country, following the announcement of a draft agreement between Donald Trump and the NATO Secretary-General. The Deputy Prime Minister, Múte Eggen, stated that Greenland will not be an object of bargaining for its future. Eggen emphasized that the country has been inherited from their ancestors and must be passed on to their descendants, expressing opposition to any attempt to alter Greenland's sovereignty. This reaction comes after discussions in Davos, where Trump reportedly secured 'what he wanted' and 'forever'. According to sources, the United States and Denmark will renegotiate their defense agreement regarding Greenland, dating back to 1951. However, the idea of placing US bases under US sovereignty has not yet been put on the table. The Prime Minister of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, is expected to make statements on the matter at a press conference in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland.
