Guatemala Seizes 4.9 Tons of Cocaine in 'Historic' Bust

Guatemalan authorities announced the seizure of 4.9 tons of cocaine at a port in the country, describing the operation as “historic.” The shipment was found hidden in seven shipping containers with flour, with an estimated value of $85 million in the local market. This amount surpasses previous largest seizures in Guatemala, such as those in December 2018 and November 2024. The drugs originated from Costa Rica, and the seizure represents a significant blow to international cartels using Central American ports to traffic cocaine to the United States. A total of 9.8 tons of cocaine were seized in 2025, less than the 18.2 tons seized in 2024.
