Erhurman Says Stalemate in Crossing Point Issue

T/C leader Tufan Erhurman expressed the view that no solutions are expected in the Cyprus issue, as the leaders cannot find a solution even to simple issues such as opening new crossing points and improving existing ones. He referred to problems affecting citizens at the crossing points, especially at Agios Dometios, and proposals for Mia Milia, Louroujina, and Pyroi. Mr. Erhurman stated that the issue was also discussed with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York. He argued that the opening of new crossings should not be used for political or economic gain, but to facilitate daily life and contact between the two communities. He acknowledged that increased crossings could affect the economy in the occupied territories. Regarding the Agios Dometios crossing point, Mr. Erhurman stated that the widening works on the T/C side have been completed and he expects the completion of the corresponding works on the G/C side, as well as the deployment of sufficient personnel for control. He also mentioned delays in issuing vehicle permits at the Deryneia and Astromeritis crossing points. Finally, Mr. Erhurman reiterated the proposals for opening crossing points at Mia Milia and Louroujina, as well as for the connection between Athienou and Aglantzia, calling on all parties to take responsibility for advancing the process of resolving the Cyprus issue.
