Erhurman Accuses President of Manipulation Tactics

The Turkish Cypriot leader, Erhurman, accused the President of the Republic of “manipulation tactics” through the media, referring to a report stating that President Christodoulides would raise the issue of the Rizokarpaso school’s operation with the Turkish Cypriot leader during their upcoming meeting. Erhurman stressed that attempting to present the situation as “we asked for it and they did it” is far from seriousness and sincerity. Erhurman stated that the decision to visit the Rizokarpaso school had been made 10-15 days ago and that the visit was natural for the Turkish Cypriot side. He added that they had been informed by the Greek Cypriot side about the possibility of the visit and had replied that it was not yet finalized. He emphasized that he does not wish to be involved in games of accusations through the media and that the Turkish Cypriot side informed the Greek Cypriot side once the visit schedule was finalized. Erhurman’s statement appears to be a response to the Greek Cypriot side’s attempt to place the issue of the Rizokarpaso school within the framework of the negotiations. This case highlights the sensitivity surrounding the issue of the school’s operation and the different approaches of the two sides. The upcoming Christodoulides-Erhurman meeting is expected to be crucial for finding a solution to the issue.
