Erdogan Says He Discussed Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean with Mitsotakis

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that he discussed the issues of the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during their meeting in Ankara on February 11. According to Erdogan, the agreements signed “strengthened the legal basis” of Ankara-Athens relations. Erdogan stated that he conveyed to Mitsotakis Turkey's expectations regarding the full exercise of the educational and religious rights of the “Turkish minority” of Western Thrace. He also expressed a desire to increase bilateral trade from $7 billion to $10 billion. In a broader context, Erdogan emphasized that Turkey seeks to resolve crises through peace, dialogue and negotiation, especially in a period of increased international tensions. He argued that the country “defends justice and truth with courage” and expects respect for its rights and laws.
