Geneva Talks Between Ukraine, Russia, and US Resume

Talks between Ukraine and Russia, under US mediation, resumed today in Geneva, without any immediate results. Yesterday's negotiations, which lasted six hours, were described as “very tense” by a Russian source. The talks involved delegations from Ukraine, Russia, the US, and advisors from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Italy. Discussions focused on various issues, with an emphasis on the fate of Donbas, where Russia demands the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from areas it controls, which Kyiv rejects. The basis of the negotiations is the American plan, which provides for territorial concessions from Ukraine in exchange for security guarantees from the West. The talks follow previous meetings in Abu Dhabi that did not lead to significant progress. US negotiator Steve Witkoff welcomed the continuation of the process, attributing the progress to the initiative of President Trump. Donald Trump is exerting strong pressure for a diplomatic solution, calling on Ukraine to come to the negotiating table. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, however, questions Russia's willingness to negotiate. The situation remains deadlocked, with both sides maintaining their positions. The Geneva talks are an attempt to avoid further escalation of the conflict, but reaching an agreement appears difficult. The continuation of negotiations, however, is considered a positive sign, as it keeps the communication channel open between the two sides.
