GG PEO: “Pension reform must take everyone forward, not just some”

The General Secretary of PEO, Sotiroula Charalambous, expressed concern about the "grey areas" in the pension reform, despite the government's assurances of three pillars: statutory pension, state debt to the TKA, and the expansion of provident funds. PEO found a lack of clarity and specific answers during the meeting with the government. Ms. Charalambous stressed that the government promised a total pension reform, but the new Minister of Labor appears to be postponing the issue of provident funds, which is crucial for the amount of the pension. In addition, there are questions about the pension from the TKA and the inclusion of the small check, as well as the 12% penalty for early retirement. PEO expresses reservations about the reduction of the penalty until 2031 and the possible increase in the retirement age. Also, there is no clarity regarding the state debt to the Social Insurance Fund. The GG of PEO accused the government of a lack of transparency and the publication of fragmented information. Ms. Charalambous stressed that pension reform must benefit all citizens and not just some, as happened with tax reform. PEO demands a comprehensive and transparent reform that takes into account the needs and concerns of workers and pensioners.
