AKEL General Secretary: Support Tourism

The General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, emphasized the need to support tourism due to the difficulties facing the sector. He proposed ensuring the connectivity of Cyprus, starting the operation of all hotels and organizing a targeted campaign to promote Cyprus as a safe tourist destination. He expressed concern about the possibility of hotels not operating and the impact on employment in the sector. Mr. Stefanou stressed the importance of maintaining the workforce in the tourism sector, proposing support for workers and utilizing the experience that exists in the industry. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive plan and alternative scenarios, taking into account the duration and intensity of the current conflict. In addition, Mr. Stefanou proposed strengthening domestic tourism, with the creation of stable support programs and the provision of incentives to revitalize the sector. He pointed out that domestic tourism is an important alternative, especially in times of crisis. During his tour in Paphos, Mr. Stefanou met with mayors, municipal officials and representatives of tourism and the construction industry.
