AKEL Secretary-General Calls for Preparation for Potential Economic Impacts from Middle East

The Secretary-General of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, called on the government to prepare for potential economic impacts from the escalation of conflicts in the Middle East. He emphasized the need for early planning and study of possible scenarios, as the conflict is escalating and becoming more prolonged. Mr. Stefanou mentioned that the issue was also raised during the National Council, where the potential impacts on the Cypriot economy were discussed. He pointed out the already observed rise in international energy prices and the potential impact on tourism, as well as the need to avoid panic and negative psychology in the economy. He urged the Ministry of Finance to take the initiative to study possible scenarios and prepare contingency plans.
