France Calls for Unified EU Response to Trump's New Tariffs

France is calling for a unified response from the European Union (EU) to the new tariffs imposed by former US President Donald Trump on a global scale. Deputy Minister for Foreign Trade Nicolas Forissier stated that "a unified approach from the EU is necessary." Trump signed a decree imposing a 10% tariff on all imports, which will take effect on February 24 for 150 days, and later increased it to 15%. Exemptions mainly concern pharmaceutical products and imports covered by the US-Mexico-Canada free trade agreement. The French minister supported the imposition of countermeasures by the EU, while France and its partners in the Union are analyzing the impact of the US Supreme Court's decision, which ruled illegal the "retaliatory" tariffs imposed by Trump last year, considering that the president exceeded his powers. France is in close contact with the European Commission and member states to analyze the decision and assess the consequences. The situation is being closely monitored, as the new tariffs may have significant impacts on international trade.
