Witness Testimony Shift: S. Matsas to Testify, New Adjournment in Th. Nikolaou Case

During today's court proceedings, the lawyer for the family of Thanasis Nikolaou, Savvas Matsas, withdrew from the case to testify as a witness, resulting in a new adjournment to March 13th. The defendants, including forensic pathologist Panikos Stavrianos and former police officials, appeared before the Limassol District Court. Mr. Matsas' withdrawal from the role of prosecutor was due to his previous position as an independent criminal investigator in the Thanasis Nikolaou case. He cited two reasons for his decision: the refusal of the second criminal investigator to testify as a witness and a second reason he did not disclose. The defense requested a new adjournment, citing the need to examine the evidence, which they stated was much larger than initially reported. The court approved the adjournment and ordered the delivery of all evidence to the defense by March 9th. The proceedings are expected to continue on March 13th, with the court insisting that no further adjournment will be granted and requesting all parties to be prepared to hear the preliminary objections and examine the facts.
