Elementary School in Lakatamia Hasn't Been Renovated Since 1986

The 3rd Primary School in Lakatamia, built in 1986, has not been renovated since then, according to the Parents' Association. Students welcomed the President and members of the House Education Committee with a celebration and exhibition on the Cypriot ecosystem, in order to highlight the school's needs. Parents are calling for immediate building maintenance, including repairs to the multipurpose hall, which is used simultaneously with classrooms, the installation of an elevator for students with mobility difficulties, fence replacement, and courtyard improvements. The President of the Education Committee, Pavlos Mylonas, confirmed the age of the building and the difficulties arising from the lack of suitable spaces for gymnastics and other activities. He also emphasized the need for an elevator. The President of the Parents' Association, Panitsa Chatziharapi, stated that they have been trying to achieve a school renovation for the past three years, without success. The event they organized in December led to today's visit by the Education Committee. The cost of the renovation, which should also include roofs and insulation, is estimated at around 400,000 euros.
