Vras: Municipal Authorities on Alert for Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Supporting Livestock Farmers

The Mayor of Larnaca, Andreas Vras, emphasized that information regarding foot-and-mouth disease should come from competent state services, while the role of local authorities is supportive. The Larnaca authorities are on alert to offer assistance where needed. The Deputy Mayor of Voroklini, Neofytos Fakontis, agrees with the need for accurate information from the competent services. The Deputy Mayor of Livadia, Marios Armenis, highlighted the need for immediate support for livestock farmers affected by foot-and-mouth disease and losing their livestock. The Municipality of Livadia has already provided equipment to control the spread of the disease, such as sprayers, lighting, and water for spraying. In addition, the Municipality of Livadia is in contact with livestock farmers to offer psychological support and has compiled a list of individuals who have been psychologically affected by the situation. It is collaborating with the Mental Health Services of the OKYpY and Social Services to provide the necessary assistance. Mr. Armenis called on the state to announce economic support measures for livestock farmers immediately, in order to avoid long-term economic uncertainty caused by the loss of their livestock and future income.
